Sustainability

Our Definition

Like any business, we need to ensure the continuation of our business and generate returns for our shareholders. As a business entity, we are also responsible for the well-being of the community which we thrive in.

Thus, to us, sustainability means meeting the needs of our business while contributing positively to the economy, community and environment.

Our Approach

Since our establishment, we have strived to promote the use of renewable raw materials in this industry. Contrary to what many believe, palm is considerably the most sustainable oil crop on earth. By using only locally produced materials, we further ensure that our raw materials come from sustainable sources.

With our country as one of the major producers of palm oil, we believe our efforts in promoting products derived from palm oil will inevitably contribute to the economy and benefit the hundreds of thousands who work in the palm oil industry.

While small in absolute terms if compared to multi-national corporations, we have been putting in large proportion of our profits into Research & Development of new uses of renewable materials.

FACT

Malaysia has committed to a permanent reserved forest area of 50% of total national land area which is one of the highest in the world. According to data from the World Bank, agricultural land has accounted for 24% of Malaysia's total land area since 2001 till 2007 (latest data). Expansion of palm tree acreage largely came from conversion of existing agricultural land like rubber plantation, and so will be the case going forward. Future growth of palm industry in Malaysia will mainly come from the enhancement in productivity but not expansion in plantation area.
